Fringe Music

Over the 10 Day Fringe Festival there will be bands playing over 5 venues. Here’s a few just to whet the appetite.

The Jack Pantazis Group- Lachlan Davidson on sax, Gianni Turcio on keys, Adam Speigl on bass and Gerry Pantazis on drums: Jazz fusion that flirts with bebop riffs and could blow all the way to an LA soundtrack. Playing original compositions from his brand new CD ‘With The Little We Have’.

Truly, Madly, Deeply: The Lost Art of Woo: Paris Payne Vocals  Jack Pantazis Guitar  Neil Hodgson Bass
A heartfelt, touching and humorous exploration of our attraction to (and sometimes rejection of) romantic love. Told through music of the 1920’s to 40’s and spoken word.

The Lost art of WOO




Duncan Graham and his co-accused: Building a reputation for delivering epic and emotional two-hour show crammed with sweet four-part harmonies, mighty fine playing and detail-rich lyrics, they run the musical gamut. Power-pop, blues, suave balladry and urban folk are all visited in the course of a night.

Jarrod Shaw delivers a captivating and powerful live show packed full of blues. Jarrod has developed a unique sound that ranges from intricate finger pickin’, to swampy slide guitar – and he sings with a powerful and commanding voice that belies his years.

 Pennyweight are a trio playing original folk and roots music written by Tony English. Regular performers at venues and festivals in Central Victoria, they have recently recorded their debut album “Keys and Change.” The band features Tony English on guitar and vocals, Denis Toner on double bass and Nel Staite on vocals. Their music ranges from delicate songs featuring finger-picking guitar, to songs with driving rhythms and powerful harmonies.

Melbourne/Daylesford based stalwarts The Resignators will be playing one of the first dates of their national tour at The Bridge Hotel on Saturday March 23rd as part of the Fringe Festival to promote their new EP “Down in Flames” . Expect a huge danceable punk-ska sound from this 7 piece band, complete with one of Australia’s best horn sections. Support by punk country combo Kid Ory.

 Damen Samuel is a singer/songwriter and a traveling troubadour of German/Nigerian heritage. Damen spreads his mellow, powerful tunes with an acoustic guitar and a velvety voice. His music style can be described as Soul Acoustic, a unique blend of Soul, Folk and Jazz influences.

Maria Forde @ Comma –  Fri 22nd –  5 –  7:30pm –  $5

As an Irish- Australian, Maria Forde has always straddled both sides of her heritage in her songwriting. Incorporating the sweet melodies, that are the trademark of the Irish musical heritage, with observations of Australia, along with her personal experiences, Maria has blossomed into one of Australia’s premier songwriters.

Roostar @ Caspa 16/3  West Wing Stage 24/3

Roostar is the brainchild of Ryan Sweeney, a singer-songwriter who blends folk, rock and blues with gentle, husky vocals to create something deceptively simple – songs that will lift you up and break your heart. Born and raised in South Africa, Ryan saw the end of segregation play out during his teen years. By 22 he had moved to London and soon formed the band Hubbard, landing on the bill at ‘100 club’, ‘The Garage’, ‘Mean Fiddler’, ‘Precious Days’ and ‘Glastonbury’ (backstage).

“Accomplished jazz pianist Jude Russell will be joined by Neil Hodgson on fretless bass.  They will be performing choice jazz standards and Latin grooves with a smattering of vocals.”

Mark Hudson takes you on a journey into a landscape of Grief and Healing through original Songs and Story, supported musically by Ken Ford. Mark does this simply and honestly, engaging with his audience in an interactive and intimate way, with an undercurrent of playfulness.

Moodswing have been entertaining audiences far and wide for the past seven years with their eclectic mix of jazz hits from the 30′s 40′s and 50′s  sourced and stolen from almost everywhere.Add to that some of the worst jokes ever and a love of what they do and you can’t go wrong.

James Griffin @ Guildford Hotel – Sun 24th – 9pm – FREE

Singer, songwriter, poet and spoken word performer James Griffin presents “Songs For a Season at Ghost Town Bridge” a cycle of original songs and poems. James is an acclaimed Australian songwriter and has written hits for The Black Sorrows and Lee Kernaghan as well as for his own bands.
